The Full Story

Welcome to Stomp & Brew – where community, craft beverages, and a commitment to making a difference come together in Ashe County, NC. Built on the idea of combining the enjoyment of beer and wine with the spirit of giving, our festival reflects the strength and power of local collaboration.

How It All Began:

The inspiration for Stomp & Brew came as Harry and Marlie Galer were walking through downtown West Jefferson. As they strolled towards a lunch meeting at the Old Hotel Tavern with their friend Patrick Horwitz, the idea of organizing a fundraising event for a local cause in Ashe County was born. Marlie proposed the concept of a beer festival, reminiscent of the ones they had enjoyed in the Raleigh area.

Excitement brewed when Patrick shared his knowledge of a local charity, Shoes For Kids, dedicated to ensuring that the youth of Ashe County have proper footwear for school and beyond. Wanting to make a meaningful impact, the three of them collectively decided to turn this idea into reality. Harry took on the responsibility of filing for a 501c3 charity status, while Patrick reached out to Shoes For Kids founders, Melody Rector and Martin Little. Their pact was clear – every effort put into this fundraising event would be volunteered, with 100% of the proceeds destined for Shoes For Kids.

Setting the Wheels in Motion:

Given their lack of experience in event production, Harry sought guidance from Gary Brown, owner of Boondocks Brewery and Restaurant. Gary connected Harry with Rebecca Lane, an event coordinator with local beer and wine expertise. With Rebecca on board, the Stomp & Brew beer and wine festival was officially born.

Securing permission from the town of West Jefferson to host the event in the town parking lot, the Stomp & Brew team (so many amazing people!), led by Rebecca, worked tirelessly to create an unforgettable experience. Focused on showcasing local craft artisans, beer, wine, cider, and mead vendors, the inaugural Stomp & Brew event in 2018 exceeded expectations.

Fast forward to the present, and Stomp & Brew proudly announces that, with the unwavering support of patrons, over $65,000 has been raised for Shoes For Kids. As they eagerly anticipate the 2024 event scheduled for September 14, 2024, the organizers are optimistic that, together, they can make it their most successful fundraising endeavor yet. Join the community in savoring the local flavors and supporting a cause close to their hearts at Stomp & Brew!
